Buffers are stationary objects placed at the end of a track. They function as a barrier to prevent trains from crashing into the station. If a train collides with a buffer, the train will instantly be despawned and a message will appear saying "Don't eat the buffers!"; the act of crashing into buffers is often colloquially referred to as "eating buffers".
Trivia
- Prior to Version 1.3.3, trains could collide with buffers without being despawned.
- Prior to Version 2.0, the message box when being despawned read "Buffers don't like to be eaten.".
- James Street did not have a buffer on platform 1 until Version 1.6, despite being the end of the line at the time.
- Stepford Central has the most buffers out of all stations on the network, at 15.
