The cab is a part of train that houses drivers and, in some instances, guards. Cabs also house the controls of the train, though this functionality is not replicated in the game. Cabs are located at the front and rear of a multiple unit, or located at either side of a locomotive, such as the Class 68.
Dummy versions of drivers' avatars will be automatically placed on the seat facing towards the front when they spawn trains or switch directions. As immobile dummies, drivers cannot leave the cab, and when the train changes direction, their dummy will be automatically teleported into the driver seat in the cab of the other end of the train. The camera of a driver is locked on their dummy in the seat. There is a camera option in which the camera is adjusted to the first-person view inside the cab.
On most trains, guards can enter or exit the cab through the cab door when leaving a train or switching directions at the terminal. When the train is moving, the guard will then sit in the seat of the rear cab. On trains without this feature, the guard will sit in the passenger cabin in the last car of the train.
Trivia
- The cab functionality in SCR has recently been improved with some newer trains, such as the Class 756, being given displays that display information about the journey and train length. However, the cab cannot be interacted with.
- As showcased in the SCR Prototyping Centre, there are plans to install physical guard panels inside the cab, replacing the current GUI.
- Stepford Express is the only operator to have all of its trains' local doors not be in the cab.
